Orissa karatekas bag 19 international medals

A 14-member squad from Orissa returned home today, carrying  19 medals in the 6th International Open Shukokai Karate Championship, held at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo (Sri Lanka) from June 29 to July 3. Medals included five golds, two silvers and 12 bronzes.

Accoding to officials of Shukakai Karate-do Union India, Orissa’s Deepak Samantaray was adjudged as the best player in the senior category of the five-day competition. Hari Prasad Pattanayak and Gouri Mohanty accompanied the squad as coach and manager respectively.

Sonu Nayak, N Balakrishna Reddy, Santosh Moharana, Debabrata Samadar, Deepak Samantara. Silver: Rajiv Singh (2). Bronze: S Nayak, Goura Chandra Samal, Tophan Badatya (2), S Moharana, D Samantara, Bijay Kumar Samal (2), Sandeep Mohanty (2), Satyashree Kumar Jena, Santosh Sahu.
